Great Pottery Throw Down - Episode 3

Claire Murdock

Main Make - Sculpt/Hand Build - Parent and child Animal Set to be Raku Fired
2nd Challenge - Nerikomi - 2 hours to produce a patterned Bowl with the Nerikome technique

I thoroughly enjoyed this main make challenge inspired by my mum and her love of elephants I am really proud of myself for being able to achieve this build. It really pushed me outside my comfort zone and challenged me to working with clay in a different way than i am used to.

In the 2nd challenge I placed 10th which wasn't a good result - the spot test set by the world renowned porcelain artist Dorothy Feibleman I found her amazing to watch but her technique extremely difficult to do. I did have fun though producing a nicely colourful porcelain bowl though.

Thankfully my Raku Elephants were enough to save me this week after doing so poorly in this spot challenge.

Potter of the week went to Rainna this week and her stunning penguins - Love them! Would be delighted to have these in my home!

Sadly this week we had to say goodbye to our buddy Kit :(  Such a talented guy and only 19!
